NASA is a waste of money

I'm passionately against sending people into space. I think it's the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars going. Billions of dollars a year are pumped into a program sending fewer and fewer astronauts into space to accomplish less and less.
If anyone out there can tell me how America is benefitting from continuing to send people into orbit, please, PLEASE let me know what I'm missing.
I've believed for a long time, we could accomplish much more as a space program if we would just abandonded this love affair we seem to have as a country with sending people into space and concentrated one billion dollars each year to unmanned space exploration.
Think about this...we've sent, depending on who you believe, people to our moon and no further. We have robotic, unmanned satellites going to all parts of our Solar System and beyond. We've sent little remote contol cars to Mars, and a major satellite is spinning around Saturn now.
I'm facinated by space and what's out there, but I'm not behind this crazy notion that we have to sacrifice billions of dollars, and astronauts lives, to be succesfully exploring the heavens.
